GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 151864
The file selection window cannot be maximised.
Last modified: 2007-06-25 16:40:49 UTC
The file selection window, as seen in gedit > file > open, and in many other applications, cannot be maximied. Although it can be resized, the window does not remember the size it was set to. Personally, I find the small dialog rather annoying, and I always resize it to fill the screen, so many folders can be seen at one time. My request is as follows; You should be able to maximise the dialog, or the dialog should remember its last size.
If you have a larger screen it is nice to be able to resize the dialog to take advantage of it (and without messing with the edges to resize it).
I agree with this. I find the small dialog very annoying, as I can never see enough folders and files. I always need to make the dialog bigger. It would be really nice if the dialog would remember it's previous size, and provide a maximise button. I wouldn't think it too difficult to provide a maximise button as it should be a standard window option.
the dialog resizes itself to the best fit available depending on the screen resolution and the font size. as per HIG, dialogs do not have the maximise button: Window Commands: Minimize, Roll-up/Unroll -- http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/windows-dialog.html if you want, you can file a bug against the HIG product in bugzilla and discuss the change on the usability-list.
