GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 148396
Esc should cancel find-as-you-type
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
As per Firefox, Camino, ekcetera. If there is a way to cancel the find-as-you-type, it doesn't look to be documented - and Esc is an obvious choice for this. Feedback in the status bar like 'Find stopped' would be nice too.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. Not using ESC for this was a concious decision, see bug 112473 and the HIG bug referenced therein. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 112473 ***
That HIG bug and the referenced Ephy dupes appear to refer to the Find dialog. Just to clarify, I am referring to the incremental find-as-you-type search in the main window. If the current policy is intended to include find-as-you-type, then apologies, but I couldn't see that explicitly stated.
Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough; I though you mean the find dialogue. This is probably a dup of bug 113449 (that menu accelerators have precedence, and Esc is bound to "Stop").
