GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 144057
sftp:// folders won't follow symlinks on remote computers.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
On the remote computer: $ cd ~ $ ln -s Desktop/ Desktoplink $ ls Desktoplink lrwxrwxrwx 1 hal hal 8 Jun 9 15:10 Desktoplink -> Desktop/ I then open up my home directory on the remote computer in Nautilus, using sftp. I click on Desktoplink. I get the cryptic message: ---------------------------------------------------- Cannot open Desktoplink The filename "Desktoplink" indicates that this file is of type "Unknown type". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "Folder". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "Folder", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. ----------------------------------------------------
why is this still unconfirmed? it happens to me as well. if i try with ssh:// then it refuses to follow symlinks but with a different message - that no action's assotiated with the file type. i'd like to assotiate a nautilus "%s" with them even though its weird. but i have no idea what to assotiate it to. and sftp sounds like preferred method from what i read.
It happens to me too. It is quite frustrating, as there is absolutely no way to open that location using the link. I vented my frustration here: http://linux.seindal.dk/item44.html Debian testing installation. Gnome nautilus 2.6.3
Confirming.
