Description Johnny Proton 2004-05-30 22:00:45 UTC
1. Use the "Connect to Server" option in Nautilus and create a connection to an
FTP site w/ readwrite credentials in fashion ftp://username:password@domain

2. Verify that you can upload and/or delete a file from the server in the
Nautilus window.

3. Right-click on one of the text files on the server and use "Open With > Gedit"

RESULT
The file open in readonly mode! If you are given readwrite permissions in
Nautilus, why don't the same permissions extend to Gedit when the file is opened?

This bug would make it easy for those of us who have to use Windows Dreamweaver,
Homesite, or Komodo switch to Linux to do simple HTML or PHP text editing. With
the GTKSourceView integration into Gedit, it would be fabulous if we could edit
the files on the fly!

I'm sorry if this bug really should be assigned to the GnomeVFS or Nautilus
component maintainers. Hopefully it's descriptive enough that it can be
addressed regardles...

It is a known limitation: at the moment gedit uses Gnome-VFS to read a file, but
not to write it. It will (hopefully) be adressed soon.
