GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 138049
GIMP Won't Start
Last modified: 2004-03-26 20:42:51 UTC
After installing the GTK+2 and GIMP when trying to launch GIMP for the first time it cycles through the Pallets, Brushes etc. However, when it hits Fonts I get the following error: <gimp-2.0.exe:2992>: GLib-CRITICAL **: file gconvert.c: line 498 <g_convert>: as sertion 'str != NULL' failed Then a Windows Erro gimp-2.0.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. .... Send Error Report Once this window closes GIMP does not load. My version of GIMP 1.2.5 still works perfectly fine. I am following the exact instructions and have used GIMP 1.2.5 for the past 4 months or so with no problems (of significance). I don't know what else I can provide to allow you try and reproduce the error.
I get the same error. When I run with --no-fonts it loads, however. I'm using Jernej Simoncic's 2.0.0 binaries on XP Pro. Here's the (verbose) output: ------------------------------------------------------------------ INIT: gimp_load_config Parsing 'C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\etc\gimp\2.0\gimprc' Parsing 'c:\cygwin\home\neil\.gimp-2.0\gimprc' Adding theme 'Default' (C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\themes\Default) Adding theme 'Small' (C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\themes\Small) Writing 'c:\cygwin\home\neil\.gimp-2.0\themerc' INIT: gimp_initialize INIT: gimp_real_initialize INIT: gui_initialize_after_callback INIT: gimp_restore (gimp-2.0.exe:2332): GLib-CRITICAL **: file gconvert.c: line 498 (g_convert): as sertion `str != NULL' failed
IIRC the workaround for this problem was to define the $HOME environment variable. Shouldn't the installer do that?
Bug #138194 seems to be duplicate of this.
I have set my HOME environment variable to point at my home directory in C:\Documents and Settings\Jakub via My Computer -> System Properties -> Advanced -> Env. variables, but GIMP still crashes in the same manner.
