Enh: Auto JPEG rotate based on EXIF orientation info
Last modified: 2005-10-13 02:32:42 UTC
When importing photos from a digital camera, it would be nice if the EXIF tag that specifies image orientation when the photo was taken, were used to rotate all images to the correct orientation. e.g. if the EXIF data says the right edge is "up", then there should be a 90deg CW rotation upon import. The EXIF data should probably be changed to say the top edge was now "Up", too.
Select the photos you want to rotate, then go to Tools > Rotate Images. Check 'Apply to all images' and 'Adjust image orientation' then press 'Apply'. As gThumb can already do this I imagine it would not be too hard to make the 'Import Photos' dialog box do this automatically.
Related bug #120839 is about autorotating selected images and this feature is already implemented :) It would be nice if gthumb would have not only a setting to autorotate images during importing photos from a digital camera but also a setting to autorotate images (maybe without changing real image file) during slide show or full screen view. This option would be usefull when making slide show from read-only sources, for example when photos are in CD-R disc. Also another setting "Autorotate thumbnails according EXIF date" would be usefull too.
I agree with Mantas, it's related/duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 120839 ***
