GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 135802
Searches should always be global
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Searches are currently performed on whatever subset of your music collection you have browsed to. It would be more useful to have them always be done on the whole music collection, like in History view and Bookmark Editor in Epiphany. IIRC this is how Rhythmbox used to work at some point in history.
Why is that more useful?
When you have things narrowed down some in the browser, it's usually easier to just browse to desired album/song, whereas search is more useful when looking for more obscure things, like when you only remember the song's name, but not who performed it. At least that's my personal usage pattern. Perhaps we need more input on this from RB users.
I vote for default global searches too. I often want to put together large playlists from diverse sources. I have a large collection so it is a real pain to have to go all the way back up and select "All" every single time. Ideally, I'd like to see a search button added, so that search is only excuted when it is pressed, and a "search within current results" checkbox or something.
