GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 131596
GIMP could make use of shared-mime-info-spec
Last modified: 2005-01-01 21:56:10 UTC
There's a spec on Free Desktop that could be interesting for The GIMP. Since it involves file plug-ins it should be considered when designing a new PDB API for file plug-ins: http://freedesktop.org/Standards/shared-mime-info-spec
Putting on 2.2 milestone (perhaps optimistically). Cheers, Dave.
Excuse me, resolved the wrong bug by accident.
GIMP does now have support for mime types w/o using any code from the shared-mime-info package. I did use the strings from the shared-mime-info package though. The code provided as xdgmime doesn't seem to provide any functionality that could be useful for The GIMP. This could change with a redesigned file plug-in API but I don't see this happening for gimp-2.2. Moving to the future milestone instead.
I am closing this report because it doesn't make sense to keep a report open for something that might perhaps be useful one day. MIME type handling as currently implemented seems to work reasonably well. http://developer.gimp.org/standards.html has a link to the spec to remind us that it could be useful.
