GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 127703
Add right-click context menu to bookmark toolbar
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Right now, right-clicking a bookmark item in the bookmarks menu or toolbar acts like a normal click. I'd like to see the menu that shows up when you right-click a bookmark in the bookmarks window, when right-clicking a bookmark item in the bookmarks menu or bookmarks toolbar.
I really dont think we should have context menus over menus. Maybe in toolbars it would make sense though, Dave ? (Again please please one bug per report)
Right click menus on menus are bad too (i advocate removing them from the panel too). To the casual user right clicking a menu item is the same as left clicking a menu item in all menus except the panel. Inconsistent? I think so... I need to think more about the toolbars. Maybe need to consider the tradeoffs first and I don't have a linux box in front of me right now. <rant>Menu items are suppose to be for commands, not objects.</rant>
I right-click on menus in Firebird and the GNOME applications menu all the time, and I think it's pretty useful. I think it's sort of tedious to have to go to the edit bookmarks window just to delete or move or rename a bookmark.
Right-click menus on menu entries might be crack, but having the ordinary bookmark right click menu available for the bookmarks toolbar buttons makes much sense. If I add bookmarks to the bookmarks bar, and make the bookmarks toolbar visible, then I do so knowingly and determinedly because I want some of my bookmarks very visible and readily available for me to interact with by simple clicking wherever and whenever I browse. The current bookmark toolbar implementation heavily restricts the type of actions that can otherwise be performed with bookmarks. It basically just allows for opening the bookmark in the current window/tab, and that's it. There is no way to open a bookmark on a bookmark toolbar in a different window or tab or even renaming it. Thus it is inconsistent with bookmarks in other areas of Epiphany, and also the bookmarks toolbars of other browsers. These heavy restrictions also defeats much of the purpose of having a bookmark toolbar in the first place to many users (including me). Also see bug 106250 about middle-clicking on the bookmarks toolbar buttons.

Bookmarks context menus for bookmarks in the toolbar are implemented in cvs.
