More likely to be a nautilus/gnome-vfs issue
This is correct only you don't have to play the media only look at it through nautilus and it gets stuck in there. The problem is that there is always a process accessing the drive even when there is nothing pointed towards it e.g. nautilus has backed out of the mount point or closed, it can be killed through 'fuser' and then the volume can be unmounted or if one logs out of gnome then the drive can be unmounted. Bit of a unix gripe as a whole, why should I have to shut down all the processes looking at a CD before I can eject it, so unnecessary if there's no real advantage (comparing to Mac and Windows).
