Description Javier Amor García 2003-10-27 12:26:33 UTC
Description of Problem:
The applet doesn't function in systems with acpi
powe-management
The error dialog appear with the message:
"Can't acces acpi events in /var/run/acpid.socket!"

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Add the aplet to the panel in a system with
acpi power managment

Actual Results:
The applet doesn't do anything

Expected Results:
In previous version the applet hadn't any trouble
getting acpi events

How often does this happen?
Always

Additional Information:
The command-line tool "acpi" has not any trouble
in getting the info
In /var/run it is a file called ".acpid.socket" ,
not "acpid.socket". Changing the name may resolve
the bug.

What version of acpid and what distro? I have no files in /var/run
starting with a dot, so I wonder how yours is named that way...
Comment 2 Javier Amor García 2003-10-27 13:09:24 UTC
Sorry, i forgot to add this information,:
I run debian unstable.
The version of gnome-applets is 2.4.0-2
The version of acpid is 1.0.2-6

I rechecked /var/run :
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2003-10-27 12:44 .acpid.socket

This is the only hidden file in that directory
Comment 3 Kjartan Maraas 2003-10-27 13:41:56 UTC
what distro was that? Fedora Core? Red Hat?
Comment 4 Javier Amor García 2003-10-27 13:47:22 UTC
I run Debian
Comment 5 Javier Amor García 2003-10-27 16:23:10 UTC
I had tried to shwo batterie status in the Notification Area and it
functions normally. So i don't think that the error is in apcid
Comment 6 Kjartan Maraas 2003-10-27 17:50:46 UTC
It's definitely using /var/run/acpid.socket so I think your package or
configuration is broken somehow. I've not seen a single report of this
problem before and I think there would be a few if this was a problem
for others.
Comment 7 Christian Marillat 2003-10-31 19:51:44 UTC
yes, this is a bug in the acpid Debian package.
