Details: I ssh to another machine, power up pine, (curses interface) and
resize to a large screen (don't know exactly how big, but most of a
1280x1024 scrn) and gnome (2.0.1) terminal crashes - not just the one
terminal, but ALL open terminal windows.

It's reasonably replicatable.

ALl terminals die in unison because they are all the same process.
