GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 120897
ability to hide window from tray icon removed
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: rhythmbox Severity: normal Version: 0.5.2 Synopsis: Tray icon isn't working right Bugzilla-Product: rhythmbox Bugzilla-Component: Interface Description: Description of Problem: When I click on the tray icon with any mouse button, it brings up the menu, while it used to hide the window if I clicked with the left button. Also, the "Show Window" entry does nothing, and the window *cannot* be hidden, even manually setting it as hidden with gconf-editor. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2003-08-28 01:16 ------- Reassigning to the default owner of the component, rhythmbox-maint@bugzilla.gnome.org.
This is currently the intended behavior, after some feedback from the UI people about the tray icon. The "Show Window" entry should bring the window to the front if it is hidden. If that doesn't work, please reopen this bug.
Then how do I hide the window?
Go to the task bar, and click on the Rhythmbox entry. That will minimize it.
I was referring to what the tray icon used to do, that actually unmapped the window so it wouldn't show up in the tasklist, window menu, focus switch, etc. So I take it that cannot be done anymore?

That's true, completey hiding Rhythmbox isn't possible at the moment. Adding this feature back isn't a priority right now for me. But if someone is willing to run this by the usability@gnome.org team and they don't have any objections, I will accept a patch to put it back in.
Reopening pending outcome of discussion on usability@gnome.org.
