GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 119104
Missing guidelines for string input dialogs
Last modified: 2020-12-04 18:20:53 UTC
(forwarded from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=204087) The guidelines miss the following feature common for many apps (I call it string input dialogs): Dialogs with one text entry and also (normally) buttons like Cancel and OK. These should be definitely outlined to be similar in different apps. E.g., where to place the label denoting the kind of text we enter at the left or at the top of the text entry. What about icons in such dialogs? Also it is not 100% clear whether string input dialogs should be considered as a kind of alert dialogs. (Indeed authentification dialogs with text entries are considered as alert dialogs).
I guess he's talking about simple input dialogs as opposed to full windows. We might say that if there's only 1 input control (entry, checkbox, etc) then it should look like an alert box.
Ross, can you provide some examples of dialogues like this? When I looked into this for the alerts section I got a sense that almost all cases were better done "some other way" (what way that was varied on a case by case basis).
Don't look at me, I just forwarded the report. :) Poke Victor Porton, who is CC'd.
victor porton: *poke*! any news on this? can you please update this by answering seth's question, if this is still valid?
