GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 118964
Remove unnecessary markup from glade messages in gossip

For details, see the problem description in bug 96836 or http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/developer.html#avoid-markup. Since these are glade messages, I'll mark it dependant on the glade bug 97061 in the mean time.
Hmm .. I hope your suggested way of doing this is to actually retrieve all of those messages from glade and do the str = g_strdup_printf ("<b>%s</b>", _("My translated string")); way? This just won't happen.
I think the plan is for someone in the future to fix glade/libglade so you can mark an entire string as being bold, for example, instead of using markup in the string.
Exactly, using some kind of properties. That's why I've marked this dependant on bug 97061. Once that is done, this should be revisited.
So, what's the point in listing all the strings here? The only thing we'll have to do then is to resave the glade-file to get an updated .glade-file which made this change?
Wouldn't a one-liner bug with just the description per module using libglade be a more efficient way to deal with this? (or even file them in the i18n product instead, for book-keeping).
If glade is reworked to allow for non-markup message attributes, these messages need to be actively changed from using markup to using those message attributes instead -- markup would still be allowed to handle the "This text is <b>bold</b>" cases. So it makes sense to have the affected messages listed, that would need to change to using attributes. Using the l10n product would be kind of weird; that product is for problems with the translations themselves, i.e. the translated content. Having one bug only also seems counterproductive. We need to properly keep track of the modules affected by this problem anyway, to know which modules need fixing once there is a glade fix. So we would need to file seperate bug reports for these modules anyway. Thus, it seems only logical to file them now and mark them dependant on the glade bug, as we can then properly keep track of the problem also in the mean time. This is also the exact reason why bugzilla has the "depends on" field; to allow for such arrangements.
Dropping this because so many other modules have and it doesn't look like support for it will be any time soon. This can be reopened if necessary but personally, I don't think bugs should be created purely for dependency reasons, and I think it is MORE counter productive to have so many bugs depend on something that shows no sign of being fixed.
Please fix... bug 90761 has been resolved and http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gossip.HEAD/gossip.HEAD.pot still contains markup
(In reply to comment #8) > Please fix... bug 90761 has been resolved and > http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gossip.HEAD/gossip.HEAD.pot still contains markup Wrong bug, bug 97061 was of course what I meant...
Gossip development has been stalled and it has been unmaintained for a few years now. You may use 'empathy' for similar functionality. Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing bugs as WONTFIX. Please feel free to reopen the bugs in future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development.
