Description mbasca 2003-07-31 20:53:51 UTC
It would be nice (speedier, more productive) to be
able to change the workspace by holding the mouse
at the edge of the screen for a short period.

Current methods of switching workspaces have some
drawbacks:
     - one has to use both hands on the keyboard

       with the CTRL-ALT-Arrow method
     - clicking on the workspace switcher icon in
the panel is difficult because the icon is
       small

Switching by holding the mouse at the edge of the
screen is intuitive, fast and I found that it
keeps me focused on what I was doing.

I use direct keybindings myself, like:
 Alt+1 - space 1
 Alt+2 - space 2
etc.

metacity doesn't generally offer this kind of extra feature,
as I don't have time to maintain it. Edge flipping specifically is
complicated to implement and bug-prone.

There are several WMs out there that work with GNOME 2 that
support it, such as sawfish, E16, *box, etc. I think.
