Description Reinout van Schouwen 2003-07-04 21:42:37 UTC
In the bookmarks editor I have to select 'Show in bookmarks toolbar' from
the File menu to access that item. This is a typical item I would expect in
the context menu of topics and bookmark items.

we had discussion of this in bug 112660. At the time my general
opinion was that the method to add bookmarks should be dnd and that
the file menu item was provided mostly for a11y reasons. Hence I was
somewhat against the context menu item, because I really envision few
people actually editting the toolbar anyway and the direct
manipulation method seemed more intuitive and more likely to be used.
Do we have any reason to believe otherwise at this time?
Comment 2 Reinout van Schouwen 2003-07-05 00:05:33 UTC
Weird that even I didn't think of dnd'ing a topic to the bookmarks
toolbar. I guess plain list items don't look very inviting to dnd.

Anyway, in the current situation, adding an item to the bm toolbar
with dnd can't be reversed using dnd. That's one reason for an
alternate UI.

Second. The items in the bm editor and the bm toolbar are the exact
same things, so it would be logical to use the same context menu on
them as well. Once they're on the bm toolbar, a common case action on
a toolbar item would be to remove it from the toolbar. You might
implement that by letting the user drag the toolbar item to the Trash
but that would have to literally remove that item from all of the
bookmarks and put it in the Trash. Hence, a context menu item '[./]
Show on bookmarks toolbar' is more consistent and less destructive
than other solutions (that I can come up with right now).

Dave, do you agree with Reinouts arguments ? If we can find an
agreement I guess we could consider this part of ui review and get in
a fix before 1.0, otherwise I guess it will have to wait.

Yeah sure why not :) at the very least once toolbar items have context
menu items they can be the same ones as the bookmarks editor has etc.
