Description Paolo Borelli 2003-06-06 16:43:34 UTC
I'd love if the connect confirmation dialog could have a box showing the
varios steps of the connection process, something like

dialing 0070204...
connected at 56000...
verifying username and password
etc

(like KPPP or the connection applet in Windows do)

The dialog would not close as soon as the user press the "yes" button but
only when the connection is estabilished.
If someone has some suggestion where I can get those kind of info I can
maybe try to make a patch.

The problem with modemlights is that it is not well integrated into
the ppp system. The trouble is to get it working on various different
systems.

Ideally modemlights should be replaced with something well integrated
with a ppp dialer and configuration application. Something gnome
specific could go into gnome-system-tools. Otherwise it's up to the
distros with their distro-specific network connection.

Ideally I think we would want something like in Windows. You have an
application that connects and configures devices, and once connected
puts a display in the tray (instead of an applet that sits on the
panel all the time).

I 100% agree with that, but I will not hold my breath for that to
happen ;)

What I was requesting was something more limited: just adding a
textbox where the pppd(?) messages during the connection process are
echoed.
What remains to be seen is if there is a way to get these messages; does
the script that is called from modemlights give any feedback?

We basicly need a good and complete ppp solution for gnome, anyone
a suggestion ?
Comment 4 Danielle Madeley 2004-10-30 09:41:47 UTC
gnome-system-tools is going to offer this solution I believe. Then we can make
modemlights tie in with it (or remove modemlights in preference to something
better).

The new modemlights applet uses gnome-system-tools.
