GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 114460
Multiple select and drag bugs
Last modified: 2005-08-14 22:39:57 UTC
When multiple-select and drag large numbers of messages to a folder, several unpleasant things happen. First, there's the ghost-message problem (bug# 102147) Then at some point, perhaps after dragging several groups of dozens of messages each, something bad happens: CPU usage redlines, the "deleted" trashcans of the last group never appears (if move is set to delete, that is), and the message list window doesn't look right when it's scrolled: the icons, especially the trash cans, aren't re-drawn. And you can't do much further with messages. Meanwhile, occasionally, you see the ghost message fly by. I have seen this several times, and have always ended up killing balsa to get back to work. It doesn't seem to do much harm--I'm not sure if the last group of messages gets moved or not, but the previous groups are moved.
From my experience, Balsa 2.0.12's drag/drop bugs depend upon the version of libgtk2.0-0 installed. On the Debian GNU/Linux unstable system I use build/test Balsa, operations on collasped jwz threads will hang (see URLs) if libgtk2-0.0 2.2.1-6 or earlier is installed. If 2.2.2-1 or later is installed, then the operation performed (copy, move, or delete) will only affect the first message in the thread. #191851: balsa: deleting message causes balsa to crash http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=191851 #201083: balsa: hangs when moving a non expanded tree to an other mailbox http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=201083
Have you tried with the latest gtk+ release? (2.2.4)
This was mostly fixed circa balsa 2.2
