Description Cory Dodt 2003-03-28 20:25:20 UTC
I used dia-installer to install this software. I've been using 0.90.1 for
a while now and then 0.91pre1 for not quite as long. Both have pretty much
no lag whatsoever when painting the client area, moving objects around,
etc.--instant response. Today I upgraded to 0.91 and discovered that every
paint operation occurs after a HUGE lag, on the order of 500-1000ms per
paint. Zooming in takes several seconds, as does moving an object across
the screen. And when it does redraw, it's not even correct always; text
frequently leaves bits of itself behind when you move it, or doesn't get
drawn in the new spot until you choose Redraw manually.

Any reason for this change?

I think GTK2 for windows might suck.

I have used Pan, Workrave, Dia, Gaim and probably other GTK2 stuff for
windows and it has been generally quite unresponsive.

The massive work to port Dia from GTK1 to GTK2 is definately a factor
if not the cause.

If you are a programmer or know some one who is maybe you can help
improve Dia. Even if you are not a programmer you can create new
shapes, test for bugs, write tutorials or just generally help out so
that the developers can concentrate on developing.

While improved performance would be great I dont see anything here
that is actually a bug per se, so i am moving this to NEEDINFO.

Enough complaining about GTK2 being slow elsewhere.
