Thanks for the bug report. However, GNOME 1.4 is no longer maintained.

Please upgrade to the much improved GNOME 2.2, using packages for your
distribution (see http://www.gnome.org/start/2.2) and open a new bug
if the problem persists.

[For the curious: This would be yet another duplicate of bug 59500, if
GNOME 1.4 were still maintained]
