GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 105938
tab switching modifier should be alt not ctrl
Last modified: 2005-12-31 20:46:37 UTC
talked to calum about this one. In a scrolled window ctrl+Pgdown/up should vertically scroll, so we should use alt instead. There's a hig bug that mentions this as well bug 87764. I can probably put a patch together for this.
Let's see what people say in that bug. Btw while looking at gedit I noticed a "Move to new window" instead of our detach. I think that's more clear. (maybe s/window/browser")
RE: s/detach tab/Move to New Browser, I'm not particularly fond of either, but i'll leave that up to you....tabs suck...long live tabs....
What's the status on this? Do we still want to do it?
We do still want this in theory since ctrl+PgUp/dwn should horizontally scroll. But moz doesn't do this yet, so we figured for the time being it wasn't worth breaking with current convention. We agreed to keep the bug open though.
Just for reference, the moz bug where this behaviour has been proposed is http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163562 , comment s #6 ff.

Barring unforeseen HIG recommendations I think we should just keep the current behaviour. The mozilla bug was marked fixed with Ctrl+PgUp/Ctrl+PgDn as tab switching shortcuts and I like that because it can be done with one hand.
I agree with comment 7; marking WONTFIX.
