GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 103152
Ability to have different Desktops on each Workspace
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
It would be great from both the usability view and the view of power users to have the ability to have a different Desktop for each Workspace. To not confuse new users, this could be done that, by default on all Workspaces you have the same desktop. But that you have the possiblilty to change that for each desktop. Maybe this could be implemented when the name or number of the Workspace is appended to .gnome-desktop like .gnome-desktop-1 for the first Workspace maybe. The point is that you could have then 1 Workspace for Office Use another for Funny stuff and yet another one for Development for example, each with it's own Background and own Desktop Shortcuts. I think I'm not the only one who would like this, as many people asked me if this is already possible.
I've gone back and forth on this issue. One nice idea i've heard mentioned before by auspex is providing the ability to set any folder as a workspace by setting a flag in its property view.
