This thoroughly puzzles me, since I'm running KDE. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. startx 2. 3. Actual Results: Described above Expected Results: Desktop actually works How often does this happen? A correction and clarification: I did have Gnome running for the user who was logged on at the time. (I had changed to KDE as root and had assumed that would change for all users on the system. Wrong.) The only modification I had made to the panel was to move it from the bottom of the screen to the right-hand side of the screen.
