Description skydoggie 2002-10-20 23:49:09 UTC
From:  <>
To: submit@bugs.gnome.org
X-Mailer: bug-buddy 2.2.0
Subject: Nautilus Crashes When Clicking On The Home Icon

Package: nautilus
Severity: normal
Version: 2.0.6
Synopsis: Nautilus Crashes When Clicking On The Home Icon
Bugzilla-Product: nautilus
Bugzilla-Component: Desktop
BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.0.5)

Description:
Description of Problem:
Nautilus seems to be running the desktop, as I have the icons, but when
I click on my
Home Icon, it crashes, and brings up a crash window, this also happens
for the 'Start Here'
icon too. So I am not able to get into Nautilus

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Clicking on the 'Home Icon'
2. Clicking on the 'Start Here' Icon
3.

Actual Results:
Crash window pops up when clicking either icon

Expected Results:
To open Nautilus for both icons

How often does this happen? Always

Additional Information:
I compiled Gnome 2.0.2 from source and there were alot of msgs that came
up when compiling related to scrollkeepr & the xml catalog;

Prefix /var/log/scrollkeeper.log no file or directory
file:///usr/local/share/xml/catalog:1: error: Start tag expected, '<'
not found

I needed Docbook so I grabbed the src, 'docbook-dtd412-xml-1.0-1.tar.gz'
and installed it like this;

xmlcatalog --noout --add "public" "-//OMF//DTD Scrollkeeper OMF Variant
V1.0//E$
docbook-dtd412-xml-1.0-1.tar.gz -C docbook; cd docbook; unzip docbkx412.zip

su, and: make install; ln -s /usr/share/sgml/docbook/xml-dtd-4.1.2 /etc/xml

make -f docbook-dtd412-xml-1.0.Makefile install

But the error I had before I had on Docbook gave this info;

configure: error: DocBook XML V4.1.2 DTD not present in /etc/xml/catalog.
Make sure docbook-dtd412-xml is installed and registers DTD in catalog.

So not sure if this DTD is registered or if this is the problem with Natilus
crashing.

But when I was done compiling the pkgs that were giving these messages at
the end
of 'make' & 'make install' there were no errors showing

The main issue (crashing on start-here/preferences), should be a
duplicate of 94598. Please submit a stack trace next time you have a
crash, as it makes it easier to figure out what's going on. As for the
other issues, feel free to submit separate bugs on them. Thanks!
