GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 95327
gstreamer-avi causes gst-register to show 'Illegal instruction'
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
This is with gstreamer-avi-0.4.1-2.i386.rpm from http://gstreamer.net/releases/redhat/redhat-80-i386/RPMS.redhat/ Running gst-register as root gives ... INFO ( 2114: 0) CPU features: (00000000) MMX ... <Init> : Avifile CVS-020929-06:48-3.2 <Init> : Available CPU flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr mce cx8 mmx Illegal instruction without the mention rpm this execution of gst-register command is ok -Jaakko
Does playing avi files work for you?
This is a showstopper, because I cannot run 'gst-register' as root to the finish. This means that I even cannot launch gst-player because gnomevfssrc does not get added to the global registry. If I remove gstreamer-avi rpm, then I can gst-register, and launch gst-player, but naturally cannot play an avi, because I do not have the avi-plugin.
Did you install a RPM for avifile or did you compile it yourself? If you compiled it yourself, was that on this machine? If you tried a RPM, please download the source and recompile on yourself. In any case, this is probably within avifile, not inside gstreamer itself...
Ok, this is a problem with avifile-0.7.7.20020523-gst.2.i386.rpm from http://gstreamer.net/releases/redhat/redhat-80-i386/RPMS.deps/ . I will try recompilation later..
