When changing the keyboard to Arabic I acnnot write in Arabic without
holding right-ALT key.

This isn't a Pango problem, but a problem with your keyboard
layout. 

Using the .xkb file from:

  http://www.pango.org/input-resources.shtml

Things work fine for me. How did you select the Arabic
keyboard?

I'm using RedHat 8.0 and I also tried Using the .xkb file from:
http://www.pango.org/input-resources.shtml but same problem!!

(NOTE: I used the command: xkbcomp arabic.xkb to generate .xkm file
but where to put this file?)

NEEDINFO means tha the the maintainer needs info from the
reporter, not vice versa :-)

This is really irrelevant to Pango - Pango has nothing to
do with keyboard maps... that's all handled by X.

I don't think you managed to successfully load the arabic.xkb
file -- 'xkbcomp arabic.xkb :0' is the correct command, 
you won't generate a .xkm file at all.

What was the other method you used with Red Hat 8.0?

I just used GKB to add Arabic language in RedHat 8.0!!!

Well, I guess that is a natural thing to do, but we 
(Red Hat) really haven't put any effort into checking the 
keyboard maps  there, which are independent from the 
system keyboard maps used by X11.

I suspect so. gkb is pretty fundementally broken. 
GNOME-2.6 will have much a much better setup derived from
gswitchit.

Kevin, what are we going to do with gkb bug, has gswitchit already completely
replaced gkb ?
