If I choose to disable the sidebar from the menu, then close the window,
open a new window, the sidebar appears again

I know there is a preference to disable it globally, but this behaviour
confused me.

Example: gnome-terminal, I disable the menubar via the menu, if I open a
new terminal, the menubar is still gone. This is what I expect

This will be fixed with the new nautilus prefs dialog stuff.
