Description Damien Donlon 2002-07-29 18:24:08 UTC
Please add the following files from gnome-games to
gnome-games/po/POTFILES.in, otherwise strings contained in them will not
get picked up for translation :

> gnome-games/freecell/src/freecell.schemas
> gnome-games/gataxx/gataxx.schemas
> gnome-games/gnect/data/gnect.schemas
> gnome-games/gnomine/gnomine.schemas
> gnome-games/gtali/gtali.schemas
> gnome-games/iagno/iagno.schemas
> gnome-games/mahjongg/mahjongg.schemas
> gnome-games/same-gnome/same-gnome.schemas

Instructions for adding .schemas translation support can be found here :

Comment 1 Christian Rose 2002-07-29 18:34:02 UTC
This probably breaks string freeze.
Comment 2 Jonathan Blandford 2002-07-29 18:38:27 UTC
Is it really breaking string freeze to add strings previously not
marked for translation at all? It's not like currently translated
strings are changing, which is the main reason for a string freeze,
(right?).
Comment 3 Christian Rose 2002-07-29 18:49:08 UTC
Regardless if this breaks string freeze or not (which is a purely a
definition issue), adding 110 new messages for translators to
translate this late in the string freeze is really bad, if we don't
want to slip the schedule and give translators more time.
Comment 4 Jonathan Blandford 2002-07-29 18:56:00 UTC
The alternative is that no one has the opportunity to translate these
strings. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. Que sera, sera.
But I'm not a translator, and these are not hugely visible, so maybe
it doesn't matter.
Comment 5 Christian Rose 2002-07-29 19:06:31 UTC
There's really not much difference between fixing this and not giving
translators extra time to translate those new messages, or punting
this for later. The end result is close to the same.

One big drawback of fixing this now though is that these 110 new
messages will completely "drown" the translation status -- it simply
isn't possible for a translator looking at the translation status
report to decide that "those new/changed messages are unimportant
schemas messages that I will save for later" and "these are a few
important new/changed messages that I will need to fix right away".
Thus adding a lot of messages that "you may translate if you have the
time for it" is a real disaster as it makes the status, the one
resource most translators are using to prioritize and schedule their
work, useless in the mean time since you cannot get anything useful
out of it.

Ross: do you want a 2.2 milestone? [Hint: you should ;)
Comment 7 Ross Burton 2002-07-31 11:22:42 UTC
Yes please. :) Is GNOME2.x a suitable milestone?

I've been on holiday for a long weekend, but I should be able to
commit this to head today as gnome-games branched for 2.0.1.
Comment 8 Ross Burton 2002-08-02 16:00:22 UTC
I *think* I've fixed this correctly in gnome-games HEAD. I'm no
autoconf wizzard and the Makefile.am files need serious love, so could
someone check I did this correctly?
