GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 84886
non-scalable fonts cause problems
Last modified: 2003-09-07 15:41:54 UTC
hello, i'm gimp maintainer in linux-mandrake. the way gimp handle text is wrong when one look at resolution managment: patch submitted on gimp-devel (look at subject: "[PATCH] mandrake patch dump") gimp try to apply image dpi to the font setting, and fonts don't provides or support all resolutions. it works for "classic" resolutions. but if either your X server take the DPI resolution from the screen through ddc or you configure it to somethinh else than standard 75x75 dpi, or if your select some strange resolution for your image, then you got some problems: gimp blindky try to force the font resolution to enforce the image one even for non scalable fonts (which cannot support all resolutions)... mandrake fix was to select only scalable fonts in the text tool (see discussion on gimp-devel, Subject: "[PATCH] mandrake linux dump"). finding the right fix won't be easy though ...

The patch is not really an options since it simply disables scalable fonts unconditionally. I'm not sure if this bug counts a duplicate of #58848 ...
Changes at the request of Dave Neary on the developer mailing list. I am changing many of the bugzilla reports that have not specified a target milestone to Future milestone. Hope that is acceptable.
