GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 795980
Void Reason Has No Visible Purpose
Last modified: 2018-06-30 00:09:43 UTC
When voiding a transaction, I am prompted to enter a reason. After this step, I can find no way to view this reason in the account ledger or any report. I did find this little nugget in the help file: "When a transaction is voided a reason entry is required that appears to the right of the description." Well, no, this reason does not appear right of the description.
When you void a transaction, the reason is added to the cell to the right of the notes field. The notes field text is changed to "Voided transaction" but if you unvoid it the original notes are returned. You need the view in "double line mode" to see the second line of the transaction.
Ah, I see it now. So this is at least a documentation problem. The help file and hopefully also the wiki should mention how to do this. I actually had no idea the Double Line option was for adding notes. I thought it was equivalent to the Transactional Journal.
You are correct this is a documentation bug. I have corrected this in the help manual. Feel free to add it to the wiki somewhere you think it's appropriate. The wiki is there for all gnucash users to contribute to (after applying for an account). Thanks!
I was able to apply for the account, but the account is not permitted to create anything in the wiki. "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page."
Yes, there's a 1-week delay between getting an account and being able to create pages. Tell us the name of the page you want to create and one of us will do it for you.
