I recently installed GIMP 2.8.22 and all went well.
I'm using the multiple window mode and when I close GIMP's main window.
The other two windows, left and right of the main window hang there for nearly 10 seconds before finally closing.

This looks a bit like what I was experiencing in bug 782676 (direct video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hafYFxWOpy0&feature=youtu.be). Do you also have long loading times for gimp?

I'm seeing the same on Windows 7 64 bit, and think it is related to the fontconfig cache issue.

We got several more reports indicating that this is indeed due to fontconfig - resolving as a duplicate.
