Description U. Artie Eoff 2017-08-30 20:30:37 UTC
Unable to install git-annex package on Fedora 26 since it was obsoleted. According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1452074 it was obsoleted due to build issues that no one stepped up to fix.

Without git-annex, gst-validate-launcher --sync will not work.

One workaround is to install Fedora 25 git-annex packages on Fedora 26. However, this has the side-effect of downgrading other packages which is undesirable.

Are there workarounds that don't require git-annex?

I'm still using https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/petersen/git-annex/ . My personal opinion is that git-annex has made it's time, it's not the first time packaging issues happens with this. At the same time, the other solutions, like git-lfs (which does not rely on haskell run-time) are not yet into ditros directly.

So, let me ask, who's bug is this ? Fedora obsoleting this seem rather accidental, lack of time effect. Specially that they didn't package a replacement, like git-lfs.

It no longer uses git-annex and git-annex was re-added to those distros.
