GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 785327
occasional crash on exit after long sessions (three days or more)
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:48:17 UTC
I occasionally see this in coredumpctl after long gnome sessions. the timestamp suggests it happened on exit. Not knowing the root cause, I asked on irc. ptomato[m]> hussam: looks like a bug in mutter. MetaSurfaceActorX11's dispose method is being called after its XDisplay is already freed Here is the crash trace. Maybe there needs to be a check somewhere? [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] Using host libthread_db library "/usr/lib/libthread_db.so.1". Core was generated by `/usr/bin/gnome-shell'. Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
