GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 779296
Thumbnails no longer being generated by nautilus with gnome-desktop 3.23.90
Last modified: 2017-02-28 02:13:20 UTC
Originally reported at https://launchpad.net/bugs/1665602 Ubuntu 17.04 Beta gnome-desktop3 3.23.90-0ubuntu1 built against gdk-pixbuf 2.36.5-1 Test Case --------- Copy or download some pictures (.jpg or .png) to a new folder. Navigate to the folder with Nautilus. Be sure icon view is on. What should happen: You should see thumbnails for the pictures. More Info --------- What happens: no thumbnails for the new pictures. Existing thumbnails for older pictures still show up. The bug happens with either Ubuntu's nautilus 3.20 or nautilus 3.23.90 from the GNOME3 Stating PPA. I could not reproduce the bug when I downgraded gnome-desktop3 to 3.22.2-1ubuntu1.
Please check the thumbnailer file is correct for your compilation options, see bug 778451.
Thanks for the hint. I'm closing this bug. Debian's gdk-pixbuf 2.36.5 did not install these two files (added in 2.36.1) which are needed by gnome-desktop 3.23.90: /usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer /usr/share/thumbnailers/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer.thumbnailer
