Screenshot 1

If I go to the calendar in the top bar in gnome shell and select a past or a future date, that date appears on the left of the panel & I can click on it to open whatever application I have set as default for my calendar, in my case gnome calendar. See screenshot 1 attached. I may want to open gnome calendar in such an instance so I can amend or create an event.

However if I go to the calendar in the top bar and select today's date there is nothing I click on in order to launch the calendar application. This behaviour is inconsistant and confusing. See screenshot 2

I think this issue would be best addressed by adding an option to add an event, similar to the existing option "Add work clocks..."

I meant to say in my previous comment that this issue would be best addressed by adding an option to add an event, similar to the existing option "Add world clocks..."
Comment 4 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:18:24 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
