GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 776641
gnome-shell performance inadequate for many/large windows
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:37:40 UTC
1. Opening new windows or large dialogs takes several seconds 2. Right-click menu in Chromium takes 2 s to appear 3. Launching Chromium loading 90 tabs: - the computer is unresponsive for 6 minutes, used to be seconds - clock stops or is erratic - mouse movement not possible (2-core hyper-threading top-of-the-line 2015 i5-5287U) It’s snappy in X and somewhat snappier in GNOME 3.20 3.22.2
And Chromium crashes GNOME Terminal while it’s launching (?)
Which distribution is this about?
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
