GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 771227
High CPU and memory usage when recording video
Last modified: 2016-09-11 17:29:05 UTC
When recording a video (Alt+Ctrl+Shift+R), the CPU and memory usage goes high with time. This happens both on wayland and X11. I'm using i915 firmware if that matters.
Unless CPU and memory usage doesn't go down after the recording has stopped, this isn't a bug - encoding a video takes up resources (in particular VP9), especially when frames queue up because the CPU cannot keep up with the encoding. Please re-open if you belief there's a memory leak after a recording has finished (that is, the shell is no longer recording and the video file has been written completely).
