Description Robert Orzanna 2016-08-30 05:30:19 UTC
Dear all,

Coming from this [1] discussion on AskUbuntu, what do you think of the feature to create an empty new document with a keyboard shortcut?

Thankfully,

-Robert

Not much (but I'm not a Nautilus developer). :)
Does not sound like a common enough usecase to verify a shortcut.

Dear Andre,

Thank you for your feedback!

`Ctrl + Shift + n` creates a new folder.

Similarly, `Ctrl + Shift + d` could create a new document.

Warmly,

-Robert

Hello Robert,

Thanks for reporting. However, what we support is templates, so first we couldn't have a single keyboard shortcut for one template only, because we wouldn't know which to choose.
There is more information about the templates discussion here https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687139

I'm closing as wontfix for now, since the only option I can see is a way to manually create shortcuts to actions, but that requires major work and an acceptable UI which I'm not sure designers are interested in.

Thanks Carlos!

Regarding the document to choose, I would say the default one "Empty New Document".

All other ones are up to the user to create.

Warmly,

-Robert

Dear all,

I encounter the same problem many times in my everyday use. I totally agree with

Robert and I am very keen on the `Ctrl + Shift + d` idea. Makes sense.

Best regards,

John
