GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 770025
using Wayland session causes movie playback to fail
Last modified: 2016-11-14 11:50:09 UTC
Blocks: WaylandRelated When using Fedora24 with Wayland session, movie playback in Totem and Gnome-Mplayer fails when playing x264/mkv files, both SD and HD. Simply switching the session back to Gnome fixes the issue.
Do you have gstreamer vaapi plugin installed? If yes, try uninstalling it. Anyway, it would be useful to add some info on your GStreamer setup (installed packages + versions). I cannot confirm this issue, as long as I don't have gstreamer1-vaapi (Fedora package) installed. This is my Totem + GStreamer setup: gstreamer1-plugins-ugly-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-good-extras-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-good-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-libav-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-base-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-plugins-base-tools-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 gstreamer1-1.8.2-1.fc24.x86_64 totem-3.20.1-1.fc24.x86_64 gtk3-3.20.8-1.fc24.x86_64

I'll try removing vaapi as suggested and will get back with results.
hi. I uninstalled gstreamer1-vaapi.x86_64, rebooted and videos now work without erroring, and the video looks fine. However, anything that's High Definition with DTS surround sound, has serious audio artifacts. It's like noise in the sound. DD5.1 is ok.
amendment: not quite every film with DTS has sound issues, but most in my collection.
So the main issue is a buggy vaapi stack in or below gstreamer. Please reassign it to gstreamer-vaapi.
re-assigning to Gstreamer. Problem lies in gstreamer-vaapi, but I could not find that in the list, so I assigned to backend.
Hi. Can you try a patch on bug #772838? Thanks in advance!
