GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 769754
Can't install any gnome-shell extensions from extensions.gnome.org
Last modified: 2018-09-24 10:50:01 UTC
I'm trying to install some GNOME Shell Extensions on Ubuntu 16.04 (64bit) from the web site extensions.gnome.org. I'm using Gnome 3.18 with LightDM. I verified that Firefox has the Gnome Shell Integration plugin enabled, and the extension page loads with the on/off slider correctly displayed. When I switch the slider to "on", I accept the dialog about installation but then nothing happens. After reloading the page, the slider is still "off". Thus the extension is actually NOT installed and the directory .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ remains unchanged.
I forgot to mention that the file .xsession-errors does not report any related error
Hi, do you experience this problem with GNOME Tweak tool also? Try to click "install" button several times - does it works for you?
Hi, I can't add new extensions with GNOME Tweak tool, there is only a link to the site extensions.gnome.org. The tool's on/off slider does work with the extensions that are already installed though. On the gnome website, when I click "install" the dialog is closed. It is displayed again only if I switch the slider to off and then again to on, but then clicking again "install" has still no effect, regardless of how many times I repeat the loop.
You may try GNOME Shell integration for Chrome/Chromium, Vivaldi or Opera: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShellIntegrationForChrome/Installation. If it works for you, then there is a problem with NPAPI plugin. If it will not work for you then there is may be problem in GNOME Shell or DBus.
Tried it, but same behavior as to Firefox plugin: clicking "install" does nothing. How can I troubleshoot any problem in GNOME Shell or DBus?
Maybe this page will help to debug problem: https://developer.gnome.org/glib/stable/glib-running.html Also there is similar problem was reported some time ago: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=675741 Do you use proxy?
Sometimes I do, but the extension doesn't work regardless of proxy settings (neither via proxy, nor by direct access). I don't understand how the information on GLib debugging provided in the first link relate to this issue
> I don't understand how the information on GLib debugging provided in the first link relate to this issue You need to lower level of GLib messages, so some extra information will be shown in logs and it will be possible to guess what's going on.
