Gdict hangs when connecting to remote server [solaris specific]
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Description: Gdict hangs when connecting to remote server. Reproducibility: Sometimes Steps to reproduce: - Start Gnome dictionary. - Set "Server" field in "Preferences" option to a remote server. - Click on the "set server" button. Application hangs.
Jathish: Please specify exactly what build/version you are using when you file a bug. gnome-bugs@wipro: please coordinate your testing efforts a bit better. Venkat has now filed this bug /twice/ ( bug 72822 and bug 72513 ) and it has now been filed a third time. This is the third bug in two days that I've seen that you've now filed at least three times. I'm needinfo'ing this bug on the assumption that this is an old version and has been fixed; please provide more information or close the bug, Jathish.
This problem was fixed previously but again visible on Solaris 9 (Sparc-64bit), Solaris 9(Sparc-32bit) and Solaris 8 (Intel-32bit) which are running latest Gnome 2.0 taken on 29/03/2002 from CVS. However this problem is not visible on RedHat Linux 7.1 version. Hence, reopening this bug. Also, the bug mentioned in the previous add. info 72822 deals with problem when the word not in the dictionary is given for lookup. In this case there is no problem in connecting with remote server.
Yargh. Fairly major. :/ Wipro, this is your bug- someone should be assigned to fix it unless mark has access to solaris hardware.
The same result is happening, if i specify the ip address of the remote machine in which no dict server is running or an invalid server is specified. In Linux, the problem is not happening. version - 1.102.0
Created attachment 7779 [details] [review] Fixing the hang while connecting to non-existing remote server
I can simulate this problem only when remote server is not running & gnome-dictionary is configured for that remote server. When opening the preference dialog, it is hanging. This is fixed in this patch, please check this & close the bug.
Added patch keywords.
Applied. Thanks so much Senthilkumar :) I'm gonna close the bug since Senthilkumar indicates that it is fixed.
Tested on July 4th sources with Bugzilla and Sun patches. The bug is not reproducible. Closing the bug
