GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 765239
USB hard drive doesn't show up in Windows 7 Professional
Last modified: 2016-04-21 04:51:55 UTC
Hi, Using Boxes for some times, it used to work. Some months ago, I set a new machine with Windows 7 Profesional. Since then I can't see my USB hard drive within Windows. It does show up within my Debian GNU/Linux Sid 64 bits system and also in Boxes menu, under USB Devices, where I can activate USB redirection for it (which unmount the hard drive within my Debian system as expected). But it doesn't show up in Windows consecutively. Note that spice-guest-tools-0.100.exe are installed within Windows [1]. I was waiting to get the 3.20 version of Boxes but I still have this problem. My system : libc6 2.22-6 Linux HAL 4.5.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.5.1-1 (2016-04-14) x86_64 GNU/Linux gnome-boxes 3.20.0-1 libspice-server1 0.12.6-4 libspice-client-glib-2.0-8 0.30-1 libspice-client-gtk-3.0-4 0.30-1 Thanks. Also my system runs libvirt0 1.3.3-2. Here are some screenshots in addition : http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/879448Boxes1.png http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/762760Boxes2.png
This could be a duplicate of https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90286 but that's only been seen with webcams so far. Could you please run gnome-boxes from commandline and see if there is any errors on the console?
I didn't get any error message (besides (gnome-boxes:28385): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-style.css:76:18: The 'outline-radius' property has been renamed to '-gtk-outline-radius' (gnome-boxes:28385): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-style.css:87:18: The 'outline-radius' property has been renamed to '-gtk-outline-radius')
For what it worth I tried gnome-boxes 3.14.2-2 (which depends upon libvirt-bin unlike gnome-boxes 3.20.0-1 BTW) and got the same problem.
BTW My system runs qemu-kvm 1:2.5+dfsg-5+b1 I also tried 1:2.1+dfsg-12+deb8u5a and got the same problem.
Ah ok. I tried to reproduce here on git master gnome-boxes (3.20) on Fedora 23 but didn't succeed. In any case, it's either a bug on spice layel so please file a bug on spice here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Spice . Might be helpful to see if you can also reproduce in virt-manager though. If you can't, then it's possible that it's somehow Boxes bug.
Could you explain me how I can try in virt-manager please ?
(In reply to antistress from comment #7) > Could you explain me how I can try in virt-manager please ? First you tell virt-manager to connect to user session mode. Once you see list of your VMs, open your win7 VM, start it and then from menu's choose "USB redirection". I'll attach a screenshot.

Ok, thanks, I tried and the bug is also there with virt-manager 1:1.3.2-4. Therefore I'll file a bug on spice ?

You can, please provide spice-debug (--spice-debug commandline option) and what happen when you click on that "Redirect USB device" (there can be info why redirection does not work)
