In a human vs human game, somehow, we had one empty space left that neither of the players could fill. The game didn't end, even though there were no valid moves for either player.

That looks like a quite old version of Iagno, the bug has “probably” been corrected since then.

Yeah, I fixed this back in 2013. I hate to be a distro crusader, but if you use Linux Mint then you are gonna have to live with ancient bugs. :(

Ah, I misremembered: actually John Cheetham fixed it, and I just committed his fix. This was bug #701122.

Oh, also: you could fix this by updating from 3.8.2 (the version I suspect is in Linux Mint) to... 3.8.3, which we released over two years ago.

I really dislike the Debian->Ubuntu->Mint tendency to ignore bugfix-only point releases. :(
