Description nikop 2016-02-24 21:22:45 UTC
I want the GnuCash-window to cover the right half of the screen. Usually in win10 this is just dragging the window to the right edge of the screen. This also works for GnuCash but it takes more than half of the screen if a specific account is open.

I can not make the window smaller by dragging the edge of the window.
I can not make the description column smaller.

If I make some column wider, a horizontal scroll bar appears and I now can make the description column smaller but I still can not make the window smaller by dragging the edge of the window.

This happens only with one account, you're able to shrink the window the way you want on all the others? What type of account is it and do you have other accounts of that type? If you set the window size that you want without the particular account open and then open it, does the GnuCash window expand?
Comment 2 nikop 2016-02-25 22:02:45 UTC
The minimum width depends on the account. Some I can shrink, some others not.

Where do I find the account type?

I guess there are several accounts of the same type.
Most of the accounts were created from one of the standard templates.

Yes, the GnuCash window expands if I open an account. The width depends on the account.
Comment 3 John Ralls 2016-02-25 22:45:03 UTC
The account type is shown/selected in the listbox on the lower left of the Edit Account dialog box.
Comment 4 nikop 2016-02-25 23:05:11 UTC
The behaviour is the same with Income and Expense accounts.
Comment 5 John Ralls 2016-02-25 23:18:30 UTC
So it actually happens with more than one account?
Comment 6 nikop 2016-02-25 23:29:50 UTC
Yes. But for most of them, this 'minimum width' is small enough and the window fits on a half screen.

But even an account with no entries needs more space than the account overview and also more space than the column headers need.
Comment 7 John Ralls 2016-02-26 00:09:24 UTC
Hmm, I can reproduce the behavior that different registers require different widths. The difference seems to be related to the values in the balance column: A the more digits a balance requires the wider the minimum width.
Comment 8 nikop 2016-02-26 07:07:31 UTC
I can confirm that.

I observed that the account types behave differently:
Income accounts never open with a horizontal scrollbar while Expense accounts do.
