GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 75975
Panel Global Properties dialog-- usability issues
Last modified: 2015-03-24 13:00:31 UTC
- Should be labelled "Panel Global Preferences", for consistency with the menu item that opens it - Should have Close button, not OK (assuming it's instant-apply, otherwise should have Try-Cancel-OK) - Would be nice if it had an Undo, Reset or Default button-- HIG doesn't yet specify which is preferable, though, so best leave that for now :/ - "General->Automatically re-check menus for newly-installed software" needs an access key and a hyphen between "newly" and "installed". - Since the "Keep Panels..." option menu only has three items in it, suggest a group of radio buttons would be better, for visibility and keynav purposes, e.g.: Panel behavior: (o) Stay _below other windows ( ) Stay at _same level as other windows ( ) Stay _above other windows - Again, on the animation tab, three radio buttons would be better than an option menu here: Animation speed: (o) _Fast ( ) _Medium ( ) _Slow - "Key bindings" should be all one word (I think-- John?) - The two combo box labels and the two 'Grab Key' buttons in the Keybindings tab require access keys
Be sure to let me know when you make this change, and either change this bug to "fix the docs" or some such wording, or file a new bug to update the docs to match.
At least some of these are 'high' (like the very first one, in particular) but the rest are probably not.
It looks like most of these recommendations have already been implemented. I think the only thing to do is relabel the right click menu text for the panel. Currently, the right click menu option read "Global Preferences...". I would recommend that it read "Panel Preferences...". Well, that's my two cents.
Created attachment 7823 [details] FYI: a screenshot of the dialog.
Basically fixed, then. Different bug is open for the naming problem, I believe.
