GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 756083
"Keep" should be default on closing drafts
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:27:46 UTC
Saving, by default, is pretty much a universal in other software. Why would devs expect "discard" would be the likely action on closing a draft? Not for me. thx
PS, i just donated $10 to Geary. thx!
Geary offers two buttons: "Discard and Close" and "Save and Close". So you can choose easily what you prefer. If you don't choose and close the draft (accidentally or not), IMO the current default - asking the user which action to perform - is the best solution. So I disagree with you: I would not autosave any closed draft without asking. You may end up with cluttering the draft folder with some drafts you never wanted to save. This happened frequently to me with mobile email clients which have such a option by default. I find it much more annoying than a dialog asking a quick question.
You're giving me CLICK-ITIS disease. Please stop making me click more things. . CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK Driving me crazy. Allow me to worry about the extra drafts. FOLLOW CONVENTION! If you insist, make it an option in settings: "On closing a draft: - auto save in account Drafts folder - auto save in Local Drafts folder - Ask me every time.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
