Description Batucan Clouden 2015-06-25 18:35:04 UTC
Sometimes, these errors occur:
1. The circle when I click on a tool won't follow my cursor.
2. You have to click on a tool many times until it's selected.
I've uninstalled GIMP because of these errors. If these get fixed, I'll reinstall GIMP.

1. is probably about the brush lag as described in bug 736411 - there has been a change, but initial feedback implies that this didn't have any effect - we do not have any current feedback, however

2. is probably something new

Uninstalling and waiting is not going to help much - we depend on feedback and research done by users who are affected by such things in order to identify the actual causes.

When will version 2.8.15 be released?
Comment 3 Michael Schumacher 2015-06-28 17:30:47 UTC
Never. The next stable release will be 2.8.16 - odd numbers like .15 are used in between the actual releases.
Comment 4 Michael Schumacher 2015-07-21 16:07:28 UTC
Setting this to NEEDINFO - without any additional input from someone who is affected by the symptoms, we will likely never solve the issue in 2.
Comment 5 Michael Schumacher 2015-12-09 15:11:52 UTC
We're at 2.8.16 now - did anything change?
Comment 6 Mystara 2016-04-08 04:36:11 UTC
No, nothing has changed.

To give more information.

OS Windows 10

After opening the program all buttons and menus act normally.

Clicking any tool and then attempting to edit the image then "locks" the cursor. No other functions will work except that one tool. (i.e. mouse wheel, keyboard shorcuts, etc.)

Changing focus off of GIMP and then back fixes this until the next time any tool is used on the image.

If a dialogue appears, one option (check box, bullet, button, drop down) can be selected then the dialog can no longer be clicked on. Taking focus off the dialogue and then back will allow another single action in the window.

The best way I can describe how it feels when this happens is as if all mouse clicks following the first are being redirected to an invisible layer or window.

Occasionally when I click I can see a black line appear around the currently open dock window.
Comment 7 Mystara 2016-04-08 04:39:57 UTC
I apologize for the back to back reply but I wanted to clarify something.

The feeling is more like when a window is locked from being interacted with because of an open dialog that is waiting for input.

Mystara, do you use Skype?
Comment 9 Mystara 2016-04-08 06:56:47 UTC
I do but cannot tonight. I will be available in the morning, unless I get called into work (I'm an on call employee.) just give me a time frame.

My Skype name is mystykle
Comment 10 Michael Natterer 2016-04-08 07:45:02 UTC
I don't think Michael's question was a request for talking about the
bug over skype :) We got reports that skype could be causing this
problem. Does GIMP work fine if you disable skype?
Comment 11 Mystara 2016-04-08 16:02:01 UTC
I don't keep Skype running or in the background and only start it if I'm actually going to use it. Since you mentioned that Skype could be causing the problem I did some poking around and found the issue.

I have an iBuyPower keyboard that uses proprietary software to manage it's features.

The software is called Hera Keyboard Manager. You can find it here:

http://www.ibuypower.com/support/driver

The link is near the bottom named "MEK Keyboard Driver"

The second I disabled this software (It's memory resident) everything worked fine.

While this may not fix this same problem for everyone, I'm hoping it gives you more information to determine what aspect of this is conflicting with GIMP. To be honest, I'd rather use GIMP than have control of my keyboard lighting.

Thanks, that's a great piece of information.
