Description Johny Why 2015-05-25 07:12:33 UTC
Hi

Problem 1: I single-clicked a message in the message list. As you can see, in image1, the message is not loaded in the right-hand pane, even tho selected in the message list.

Problem 2: Then i double-clicked the message in the list, and it loaded in the preview pane. Should not have to double-click.

Problem 3: Then I clicked reply. Then i clicked the 'popout' button, and started typing. Then i clicked in the original message (behind the popout window), and my draft popout compose window disappeared. Where is it? No idea!

Problem 4: Then i double-click the message in the list. The message loads into the preview pane, but my draft is not visible in the message. It IS visible in the message summary in the middle pane message list.

Problem 5: Then i click any other folder, and i get an alert that says: "Close open draft messages?". I have an open draft? WHERE?? No idea!

Problem 6: Then i move to Draft folder, and click once on the draft message. Again, the message does NOT load (as in Problem 1). Then i double-click to get message (as in Problem 2), and it loads. I can see a blinking cursor in the preview pane, and i can type there. But, the message i'm typing into is the original received message-- NOT my draft (which i started composing in Problem 3).

Problem 7: If click around some more from folder to folder, and then to this message (and again double-clicking to open it in preview pane, as in Problem 2), i can get the "Close open draft messages?" again and again, even tho i click "Close" every time, and still never see my draft.

These might not ALL be real problems, but my user experience at the moment is "what the heck is going on? where's my draft?!" So if your goal is for users to NOT say "what the heck is going on?", then please consider ways to make this scenario more understandable.

Not complaining, just reporting.

Request: PLEASE fix existing bugs before adding new features :) Let Microsoft release software loaded with awesome new features-- and bugs!

Thx for geary, the BEST email app on linux! Keep up the great work!

Just noticed that the open drafts were revealed when I clicked gnome" Activities", but not visible with Alt-Tab.

Thx
Comment 4 Johny Why 2015-05-25 08:40:02 UTC
not really a bug or enhancement. as long as i can find the open drafts somehow. you can prolly mark this 'Resolved'.
Comment 5 Johny Why 2015-05-27 22:50:51 UTC
well, still can't find.

i started a new message on an imap account.
then clicked 'close and save'.

cannot find it in any account's drafts folder.

thx
Comment 6 Johny Why 2015-05-29 18:45:40 UTC
currently, geary is somewhat unusable for composing mails-- if it cannot save drafts, cannot use it.

thx
Comment 7 Johny Why 2015-05-29 18:50:08 UTC
due to this and other problems i've reported, i'm going to stop using geary now-- just not usable yet.

looking forward to next release!

thx

The draft problem is bug #747627
I agree that it's very annoying and it makes Geary almost unusable. Perhaps you can install an older version for the time being.
Comment 9 Johny Why 2015-08-10 09:41:51 UTC
I believe no version of Geary is ready for my day to day email needs.

Looking forward to the next release! Then I'll try it again.

Thx

BTW, plz note this report above in the OP mentions several issues, not just about drafts.

Thx .

I was quite disappointed when this happened to me just now. It's been several months since this issue was reported -- is there any update on whether or not there are plans to fix it? Saving draft e-mails is quite important. If you can't save a draft e-mail, please remove the button titled "Save and Close" -- at which point -- if I need to save a draft, I'll be sure to copy the e-mail instead of clicking that button and losing what took me quite a while to write!

Adam, this seems to be a dupe of bug #747627.
