Gunther, hmm ding ding dong (difference of gaussians bug)

To reproduce this bug:
-Load the provided gunther.xcf
-Select the 'Gunther posterize edge' layer
-In the menu, go to Filters/Edge-detect/Difference of Gaussians
-Use parameters such as radius1 = 3.0 and radius2 = 1.0 (default)
-The preview is looking fine
-when I click on ok, there is no picture at all

I tried on 2 versions of Gimp, the 2.8.2 on Debian Wheezy and the 2.8.10 on Mint 17, the behavior is  the same.
